Over flowing sewers are gross, no one would question that. Finding trash washing out of sewer vents and into our streets can make the entire neighborhood into an unsightly eyesore. Plastic bottles, eating utensils, paper goods, and food wrappers can wash up somewhat regularly in a heavy snow or rain season but the real fear is that some of what is washing up is unsafe. Not unsafe in a “gross don’t touch that half eaten sandwich way”, unsafe in an “I just stepped on a syringe origin unknown and now i need to go get a tetanus shot” way.

Of course this is why we attempt to regulate medical waste management. The garbage being generated by research labs and medical facilities has no business being mixed up with our wrappers from Burger King. This is serious stuff and is potentially quite troubling for anyone and everyone who comes into contact with it. Without proper medical waste disposal we are a lot less likely to feel comfy with our kids or any of our loved ones for that matter walking the streets unprotected.

If you are noticing this sort of waste washing out of sewers contact an authority as soon as possible before the problem gets way worse.
